* Thriller.
* The use of natural diagetic sounds rather than music which can help the
spectator belive its more realistic because you dont get music playing
out of nowhere in rel life,you also get to hear the small things that can help with the plot
of the story.for example, you hear the plane in the background,which later becomes
a major part of this scene.
*It starts with an extreme high shot, the establishing shot.you can see the long straight road
and miles around of nothingness.
*I have no idea why the mans there or what hes doing.cars drive by and his posture changes as if hes getting ready,but as it passes he relaxes a bit.this portrays how he may not no who hes waiting for.the almost cowboy posture with his hands in his pockets as if ready to pull a gun makes me wonder if his intentions are not what you would expect a civilised person to do.this beilds tension because the spectator wants to know who hes meeting and why meet in the middle of nowhere?
*Hichcocks well known for his use of aniclimax (false plato?).
later in the film we get a low shot of him ducking the aroplane which enthisises how close it was.
the volume of the passing cars also help portray the wilderness around him, as they passed they were so loud beacuse there is nothing around for the sound to be obsorbed it just echos.
*the camera often comes back to the man for a reaction shot which gives the audience an idea of how hes feeling as his face is tense and fixed on the verhicles passing him by.
*when the other man comes along, hichcock bulids suspense with the long walk over to him without cutting the scene.he did this beacause he wanted to bulid it up only fro an anticlimax when the two men end up talking about the weather.you realsise this isnt the person hes waiting for.
*just as your back to the tension stag again and your confortable the man sets a question before he exits from the scene, he asks about the funny behaviour of the plane that has been in shot throught the scene.up untill then its just seemed like backgroud movement but the mans comments put the focus on the plane which adds tnesion again,buliding up to the attack of the plane.
*hichcock uses a lot of silence in this scene which in some films can make it boring and a waste of film but in this one it suites it well as the time fram of the scene is long and he wanted to portay that.i found i was able to consentrtrate on the scenery better without the music.
*you see the surroundings from the charactors point of view at parts,which helps to portay him in a vulnerable way because of how issolated he is.
